There is a tremendous amount of Scrapbooking
supplies out there! You can find almost any thing that your pages
need with a quick search on the internet! While this problem is a
great thing, it can be overwhelming to the new comer to Scrapbooking.
Here is a list of the beginning products that we recommend to the
beginner or to make it easier try one of the kits listed below!
Lets make this simple. To begin you
need: |

Scrapbook Album |

You need to have an
archival book in which to keep your Scrapbooking layouts. These are most
commonly available in 5" x 7", 6" x6", 8" x 8", 8 1/2" x 11" and 12" x
12". The most common bindings are
Post-Bound,
Strap-Hinge, and
Three-Ring. What you choose will be a matter of preference. I prefer the
Post Bound, but I do have the strap-hinge as well. I also prefer
the 12x12 album because I love the use of embellishing and different
techniques. The 12x12 pages give me the room to go! If you are
going to use a lot of lumpy-type embellishments then a three-ring
because they allow for more expansion and less crowding then the other
types. If you do not always scrapbook in chronological order then I
suggest you not purchase a strap hinge. Rearranging your layouts
is difficult once they are put into these types of albums, for this
reason I like the Post bound. I strongly recommend putting your layouts
into
page protectors. Most albums come with a supply of them. Also
look for Albums that allow you to add additional pages, and purchase
your album from a place that offers that. |

| Journaling
Equipment |

When I first began I used a pen
to write on my layouts. After getting stronger in Scrapbooking I began to use computer
journaling. This is simple, I took all my layouts sat down on the
computer and began to journal each page. I print them off on
vellum or cardstock. This is cheap and it allows you to use
different fonts and font sizes plus different colors!
Helpful hint: always have some sticky notes with you. This
way you can write the info on them and stick them to your layout.
If you don't have access to a computer right away at least you don't
have to try and remember everything about the layout.
Next I use a lot
of
letter and number stickers. Stickers are a fast and easy way to
finish pages.

| Ruler

A 12" ruler will do. I prefer a metal one. You will use your ruler for
all sorts of things! They are coming out with some awesome rulers
for Scrapbooking and craft. Don't need anything special here just
a ruler to guide you. Look for the new rulers that help you
tear your papers!

| Paper Trimmer:

The best way to get straight cuts on your photos and mats is to use a
paper cutter. They are available especially for Scrapbooking in 9" and
12" sizes. A MUST HAVE. There are many brands available. Try and purchase one that comes with
interchangeable blades to make all those fancy borders! You will be glad
that you did.

Scissors: |

You will need a pair of straight edged
scissors. I prefer to have both a large, medium and a tiny pair
for fine work also. Some people like to work with scissors that have
decorative edges as well.
To begin you simply need a pair of scissors, the rest will come as you
go along.

Adhesives: |
 |
| |
This is the
Adhesive that keeps your photos and embellishments
in your album. It is very important to purchase an acid-free adhesive
that is intended for use with photos. Believe me there are many to
choose from. Some examples of roll on adhesive brands are:
Adhesive Tech, Hermafix Dotto, Xyron, Easy Stick, and Tombo. Some
examples of tab adhesives are: Hermafix, Hama, Thermoweb Clear Mounting
Tabs, and various sticker squares. Then their are the glues and the glue
sticks. I started out with a glue stick and I found that I had to
reglue some of my layouts back together, I suggest the Tombo Mono double
tip glue. One side of this has a glue tip and the other a broad
tip. This is something that you will have to play around with and
find your preference.

Papers:

This is where the fun begins.
Scrapbook Paper is so inexpensive and it is a
must for Scrapbooking.
I try to buy at least 2 sheets of each kind. That way if I am
doing a layout spread I have enough paper. You will want a variety
of
Cardstock and patterned paper. For fancier touches try some vellum,
mulberry, and metallic paper as well. |

Stickers: |

Many, many types of
Stickers! For the beginner a must. Try
getting some letter stickers to help you with quick journaling. I
have a variety of stickers with lots of themes! Stickers can add that
extra pizzazz to a page quickly and easily!

Organizers: |
 |
| |
Many ideas and products here! If you are
going to be attending classes then you need something to put your
products in. Try looking at some of the
bags and totes available
for Scrapbooking on the go! Also look for a photo organizer!
These make the job of Scrapbooking easier! Organization is the
key. There are so many products out there for organizing and I
could go on and on. What you need to do is look at what you are
going to do with Scrapbooking and where. Then asses your organizing and
storage needs. Don't worry about buying the wrong product. I
myself have purchase 3 bags and many storage products and as I have
grown in Scrapbooking always have a need for something else. There
has never been a problem selling my used products to someone for an
adequate price! |
